Don’t Let Your Oral Health Suffer

Those who have a dislike of the dentist, a sensitive gag reflex, or a fear of the dentist may avoid the dentist entirely. Seeing a dentist consistently is one of the best ways to prevent and treat oral issues such as:

  • Gingivitis or periodontitis
  • Oral cancer
  • Infections
  • Tooth decay

Visiting the dentist to have your smile cleaned removes plaque and tartar, which can’t be done at home. Avoiding the dentist can lead to more cavities and infections or more severe oral health issues.

That is why James Martin, DMD, works with patients to ensure a comfortable experience that alleviates dental fear and allows us to treat your oral health. Dr. Martin is thorough and kind, helping you feel at ease. Our oral or IV sedation can help your body relax and prevent gag reflexes or anxiety responses.

Will it Help With Dental Anxiety?

Our options are intended to assist those who have dental anxiety. Valium or our oral sedative is the most effective treatment for anxiety or even panic attacks associated with dental visits.

Developing a good relationship with your dentist is part of minimizing dental anxiety as well. Dr. Martin spends time with each patient during their consultation and visits getting to know them and helping them feel comfortable in our office. We also work with each patient so that they understand how the treatment will work and feel.

We offer FREE sedation for anybody who has dental anxiety, any dental need, or hasn’t been to the dentist in a long time.

What Causes the Fear of the Dentist?

There can be many reasons for fear of the dentist, but we have solutions for all of them. Some common reasons include:

  • A sensitive gag reflex, which can cause discomfort or make it difficult to have dental work done
  • A past experience with an uncomfortable or painful dental visit
  • A fear of the unknown or unfamiliar things; the dentist can feel mysterious if you do not understand what is going on
  • Uncomfortable sensations or loud noises that can feel overwhelming or scary, especially if you are highly sensitive

We have solutions for your dental anxieties and fears. No longer does visiting the dentist have to be overwhelming or uncomfortable when you visit James Martin, DMD.

Our office also makes sedation convenient for all patients by offering complimentary oral sedation easily picked up at a pharmacy before your appointment.

Our Sedation Options

Our dental sedation options provide solutions for everyone. Each of the following options might appeal to patients with different needs and levels of anxiety:

  • Valium: As part of our pre-medication options, Valium is available for patients requiring a calming aid before their dental treatment. This option is ideal for those seeking mild to moderate relaxation to alleviate dental anxiety.
  • Oral Sedation (complimentary): Before your appointment, we’ll provide a prescription for oral sedation. It is important to follow the provided instructions on timing before your visit. Given the lasting calming effects, you will need to arrange transportation to and from your appointment, ensuring a hassle-free and deeply relaxed experience.
  • IV Sedation: For specific situations requiring deeper relaxation, we offer IV sedation. This method is considered case-by-case, focusing on safety and patient comfort. Our team will discuss this option with you in detail to ensure it aligns with your needs and treatment plan.

Regardless of what sedation option you choose, you can rest assured knowing that your dental visit will be comfortable and anxiety-free. We will work with you to determine what sedation option is right for you so you know beforehand what to expect. We want our patients to feel comfortable before, during, and after treatment.

Complimentary Sedation

No one should have to avoid the dentist because they want to avoid the fees that can come with a relaxing experience. That is why we offer oral sedatives as a complimentary part of your treatments and procedures with us. You can ask about oral sedatives during your consultation with Dr. Martin.

The Cost of Sedative Dentistry

IV sedation or Valium may be an extra charge, depending on whether your insurance covers these options. If you are interested in either option and are curious about additional charges, you can call us, or ask Dr. Martin at your personalized consultation.

We encourage you to do research through your insurance company to learn if your benefits cover sedative dentistry.

The FAQs of Sedative Dentistry

We will take the time to educate you regarding your options and any risks associated with sedation during your consultation.

Is Sedative Dentistry Safe for Children and Elderly Patients?

Yes, sedative dentistry is generally safe for both children and elderly patients. Dentists carefully consider the patient’s age, weight, and medical history to select the appropriate sedative and dosage. Safety measures are taken to monitor the patient’s vital signs throughout the procedure.

We will ask about your health history before we offer sedation dentistry, and during our consultation. It’s important to discuss any specific health concerns with Dr. Martin to ensure that all goes smoothly.

How Long Does It Take for Sedation to Wear off after a Dental Procedure?

Oral sedation should be taken shortly before your appointment. It will wear off a couple of hours after your appointment. Valium is similar but may last slightly longer. IV sedation effects can last the entire day.

For any kind of sedation dentistry, it is best to arrange rides to and from our office and take at least a partial day off from work.

How Should I Prepare for a Dental Appointment with Sedation?

We will discuss how to prepare for oral sedation and IV sedation during your consultation, as well as send you written instructions. Preparation for sedative dentistry involves several steps:

  • Avoid eating or drinking for at least six hours before the appointment if you’re having oral or IV sedation
  • Wear comfortable clothing and take the time to relax before your appointment
  • Arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to the office and back home
  • Inform the dental team of any medications or health conditions
  • Follow any other specific instructions provided by Dr. Martin and the hygienists to ensure a smooth procedure

“As a medical provider myself, I am quite impressed by the degree of care provided at this dental office. They have state of the art equipment and a beautiful clinic. Dr. Martin is incredibly thorough and the hygienist Marie has a delicate touch. Everyone at the front desk provided a warm welcome. And the soundtrack playing at the clinic was excellent If you want the best dental care, I recommend going here.”

Cheryl H.

“Dr Martin and the whole staff are amazing! I’ve been seeing Dr Martin for nearly a year now getting a lot of long overdue work done, and am currently nearing the end of the process of getting a couple implants. His work is amazing and top of the line! I have major anxiety in general, but excessive health (dental) anxiety and everyone here has been very supportive and understanding when I had many questions or just needed reassurance. Richelle, Kelly and Sabrina are the best as well and really make the whole experience positive.”

Judy P

“I don’t usually give reviews, but my experience with Dr. Martin and his staff have been excellent and beyond thorough. I’ve always had high anxiety with dental work. But, not this time with this office! I just got 2 crowns and a filling all in one sitting. The coolest thing is their oral sedation (which is free).

Didn’t feel a thing and just slept for a while after the procedure. If you suffer from dental anxiety and are sensitive to pain, I strongly recommend James Martin DMD and their awesome team! They really do rock!”

Jeremy W.

“Words can hardly express my appreciation. Their facility is High tech. They are knowledgeable and compassionate with a great ability to communicate. They enjoy what they do and take pride in their work. Dr. Martin is a true artist of his time and blessing to his field.”

Kathy G.

“This is THE Dental office to go to for fantastic personal care!! Dr James Martin’s staff is as caring and professional as Dr Martin. Every step of the way we have been treated with kindness and respect. Every step of the way the procedure has been explained in detail so I understand why things are going forward & the precise way that they are set out. Thank you to Dr James Martin and team!!”

Sherry W.

“Dr. Martin is the most thorough dentist I have ever been to. He truly cares about his patients and the quality of his work is excellent. The staff is so friendly and efficient at their jobs. The technology they use is very modern and some of their equipment I have never seen before with any of my previous dental offices. I highly recommend James Martin DMD!”

Darby M.

“This is by far the best dentist office I have ever been too. I would recommend them to anyone, especially those with fears of going. I have never felt more welcomed or treated with as much respect.”

Rebecca D.

“I have a major phobia of the dentist. Which has made me not go when I’ve needed too. After my initial call, the office emailed and text to follow up to have me make an appointment. Dr. Martin was great. He talked me through the first step of work I would need, and he made me feel comfortable. I was put under for my first step of work. I got a text the next day to follow up on my care and Dr. Martin talked me through the concerns I had. All of the team was wonderful as well! I appreciate this office and what they do to help people get the care they need.”

Jesse G.

“I’m completely amazed by how wonderful the staff is here as well as Dr. Martin. I can honestly say that I have never been this comfortable at a dentist’s office in my life. Dr. Martin truly cares about his patients and is passionate about what he does. I have low sinuses and he was able to extract my tooth without perforating my sinus. That was a first for me. He listens to his patients. I will never go anywhere else for dental care. From the first point of contact with his office to my most recent follow-up appointment today, the care, the kindness, and the helpfulness have been genuine and consistent!”

Dan C.

“Best dentist I’ve ever had. Everyone on the team is friendly and very knowledgeable. They really make going to the dentist a relaxing experience instead of an anxious one.”

Lauren Y.

“This is the best dentist I’ve ever been to! Go here and you’ll be completely satisfied.”

Brian C.

“All the things I was scared about and all my concerns, Dr. Martin dissuaded me from feeling those things. I’ve never been to any location, like any business or doctor, that’s really cared as much as [this office] does and goes out of their way to make sure that I’m taken care of; that’s a big thing for me. Things that I’m able to do now that I wasn’t before, that’d be being happy and proud to take pictures. Since getting all this work done and completed, I’m actually able to eat all the things that I want now.”
